Apart from being a travel addict who’s especially hooked on finding exciting destinations in and around my home town, I’m a shameless foodie (I may have mentioned this upfront), so when I was invited by Cape Tourism Connect media agency to sample the tantalizing new menu at Vista Marina Restaurant and Bar on the V & A Waterfront … well, yikes, and oh my word!
Close to our world-class aquarium, stylish Vista Marina boasts ultra-chic, cosmopolitan surroundings and magical, uninterrupted views of Table Mountain, which is justifiably rated one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. This, together with an outside deck overlooking the marina, an array of mega-luxury yachts (and a few fur seals that regularly hang out basking in the warm Cape sunshine), made it a Sunday well spent, in the company of some amazing people.
“Let it rain sushi” is the mantra of many of my friends, and that it certainly did! Although I don’t eat raw fish or shellfish (and admittedly suffer from food FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) when looking at food everyone else raves about, the team was clearly spoilt for choice. The huge variety of fresh, swiftly and beautifully presented sushi and sashimi was a snap-magnet for Instagram foodies.
I enjoyed one of the restaurant’s famous vegetarian dishes – a delicious plate of creamy risotto, served with Pak Choi ( Chinese cabbage), paired with a glass of Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc, and was very impressed with the superb service and knowledgeable staff.
I also found out that Vista Marina offers half-price sushi and cocktails on weekdays and Saturdays, from noon until 7.00 pm, and all day on Sundays! (Yes, you read it right.)
Whether you’re celebrating a life event or just want to enjoy a day out with friends, Vista Marina is a fabulous place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner, and soak up some of the most spectacular views Cape Town has to offer, as a backdrop. Yummy stuff!
